INFINITI and Motor Trend Group bring inaugural Japanese Automotive Invitational to Pebble Beach Automotive Week

The inaugural Japanese Automotive Invitational coming to Pebble Beach 2018

Pebble Beach, Calif. (August 29, 2018) – INFINITI partnered with Motor Trend Group to bring the inaugural Japanese Automotive Invitational to this year’s Pebble Beach Car Week. This brand-new event aimed to bring even more diversity to the premier celebration of classic, vintage automobiles and demonstrate the prowess Japan brings to the industry as a leader in design and technology.

The two-day JAI showcased Japanese automotive design in a stylized space and hosted presentations by the industry’s top experts. In the INFINITI Pavilion, a cutting-edge projection mapping display took viewers on an immersive journey through our Japanese heritage and its influence on our design process, while using the INFINITI QX50 as its canvas.

 

In addition to experiencing the INFINITI QX50 projection mapping display, attendees had the opportunity to view classic examples of Japanese automotive design. This included INFINITI's original flagship, the Q45t, Prototype 9, which made its Pebble Beach debut last year, and Q Inspiration, the latest concept car from INFINITI.

Other landmark vehicles on display included the 1964 Datsun 1500 Roadster, 1966 Toyota 2000GT, 1970 Mazda Cosmo Sport, and 1994 INFINITI J30, each embodying the design influences, innovation and performance of this rich and historically significant car culture. Unique among the week of vintage automotive events, the Japanese Automotive Invitational distinguished itself as the premier experience dedicated to Japanese automotive achievements, culture, personalities and the future of Japanese-inspired innovation and design.

The show-quality vehicles of different Japanese automotive makes were on loan from private collectors, automotive museums and manufacturer collections. These included beautifully restored examples that illustrated key moments of Japanese influence in the automotive industry.
