No Longer in Production
When it comes to bold and innovative luxury, few vehicles set the stage for their successors in quite the same groundbreaking manner as the INFINITI QX56 SUV.
In the years that have passed since its debut in 2004, QX56 eventually gave way to the brand’s current flagship vehicle, INFINITI QX80, and the influence could not be clearer. The heart and soul of QX56 lives on in the spirit of our luxury today – a true testament to the commanding character of this ahead-of-its-time SUV.
First Generation
2004-2009
It all started with the 2004 QX56 – which was also, as it turns out, the very first INFINITI to be assembled right here in the United States. [[2588]] From there, the generation carried through to the 2005 and 2006 QX56 models as INFINITI’s top-tier SUV offering before the 2007 QX56 came to claim the crown as the brand’s flagship vehicle with the sunsetting of the Q45 executive sedan.
The 2008 QX56 featured a new look for the vehicle with a revised front grille and redesigned interior before the generation ended with the 2009 QX56 to make way for the next chapter of this luxury SUV’s legacy.
Second Generation
2010-2013
The 2010 QX56 saw big changes come to INFINITI’s commanding full-size SUV, including the introduction of a brand-new direct injection engine, available four-setting terrain control, tri-zone climate control and more.
The 2011 and 2012 QX56 models continued to iterate on the second generation’s bold approach to capable, forward-thinking luxury until the 2013 QX56 signaled the end of an era – and the start of something new.
When Was the INFINITI QX56 Discontinued?
The 2013 INFINITI QX56 passed the torch on to the rebadged INFINITI QX80 – the go-forward designation for INFINITI’s flagship SUV under the brand’s newly-renamed product line. The name might have changed, but the driving philosophy remains the same: to provide a luxury experience as thoughtful as it is grandiose.

Specs
There’s a certain luxury to having serious amounts of performance on tap. QX56 knew it, and so does QX80. What started as a V8 engine making 320 horsepower in QX56 has evolved into QX80’s 400 horsepower, 413 lb ft of torque powerplant. Paired with a seven-speed sequential-shift automatic transmission, QX80 (like QX56 before it) comes equipped with copious amounts of confidence-inspiring performance.
4WD Off-Road Capabilities
QX56 gave drivers the luxury of being able to follow the Infinite Road wherever it led, even if it happened to be a place where there were hardly any roads present. QX80 carries on this maxim with its capable body-on-frame design, available 4WD drivetrain and available Hydraulic Body Motion Control system to offer more traction, less body lean and a smoother ride across a variety of surfaces and conditions.
