“Paleontological maps will be rewritten to account for these new discoveries.”

INFINITI and The Explorers Club Back to Gobi
One hundred years after Roy Chapman Andrews’ historic quest for dinosaur fossils in the Gobi Desert, we boldly retraced his journey in search of new unique treasures. With the help of INFINITI SUVs and NASA imaging technology, the team uncovered possible evidence of new dinosaur species that will re-write the rules of modern paleontology methodology.

A daring journey
Throughout the grueling 20-day expedition, the 35-person team of scientists, geologists, paleontologists and archeologists navigated more than 1,000 miles of Mongolian desert terrain to uncover a trove of ground-breaking finds.

Five new fossil sites
Using drone thermal imagery and satellite data, the team pinpointed locations scattered across the Gobi that might prove fruitful in the search for fossilized dinosaur remains.

250 new fossil discoveries
At these locations, the team discovered hundreds of fossilized bones, including those of a velociraptor ancestor and a Tarbosaurus, the Mongolian cousin of the T. Rex.

Three new species
The team also unearthed fossils of what appear to be three previously unknown species. Paleontologists are busy analyzing them to determine if they are indeed entirely new breeds.

History in the remaking
As Andrews did a century earlier, we used the latest technology at our disposal to reveal ancient secrets buried beneath the Gobi. In our case, this meant employing satellite data and drone imaging to create detailed 3D maps of the region. These maps will aid further exploration for years to come.

Seek knowledge, leave a legacy

“Always, there has been an adventure just around the corner —
and the world is still full of corners.”
-Roy Chapman Andrews

Retracing old tracks
The expedition followed Andrews’ famous venture into Mongolia where he discovered the first ever nests of dinosaur eggs. It was also the first archaeological mission to use motorized vehicles — helping him better cover the treacherous terrain.
